On October 16, the Fourth Conformity Assessment for Trade Facilitation International Cooperation Policy Promotion Event — Special Session on Home Appliances and Consumer Electronics — was held during the 140th Canton Fair. Tommy Leung, technical expert of CMA Testing, was invited to deliver a speech entitled “Multilateral Mutual Recognition Arrangements and Outlook for Conformity Assessment in the Telecommunications Sector under the Asia-Pacific Regional Economic and Trade Cooperation Framework.”

Around this theme, Tommy Leung focused on four aspects:

First, APEC and the APEC TEL MRA. He introduced the multilateral mutual recognition arrangement for conformity assessment of telecommunications equipment under the APEC framework, and how mutual recognition of testing and certification results reduces duplicate testing and duplicate certification.

Second, the operation of multilateral mutual recognition mechanisms. He explained the mechanism logic and operational key points of mutual recognition arrangements, and highlighted the positive role of conformity assessment mutual recognition in enhancing regional trade facilitation.

Third, Hong Kong’s participation, qualifications and services. He shared Hong Kong’s practice in participating in regional conformity assessment mutual recognition in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as CMA Testing’s qualifications and service capabilities in testing and certification, market access compliance and other areas.

Fourth, the adjustments and cooperation needs facing enterprises. Based on the actual situation of telecommunications and consumer electronics enterprises going global, he analyzed enterprises’ needs and directions in compliance adjustment, testing and certification alignment, and cross-border cooperation.

CMA Testing will continue to leverage Hong Kong’s advantages in conformity assessment services, deepen regional mutual recognition cooperation, help enterprises expand into the Asia-Pacific market more smoothly, and make quality certification an “accelerator” for cross-border trade.
