CMA Testing has launched “Hong Kong Carbon Footprint” certification scheme for Hong Kong companies, especially the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) since 2015. We have cooperated with different companies for calculating and auditing their carbon reduction rate for different environmental protection projects, then we issued certificate and label to them. We also provide tailor-made carbon auditing service. We can help to increase the efficiency, high energy saving rate and return rate working environment.
Key Core Advantages:
Aligning with Policy Guidance and Reducing Compliance Risks: The certification program aligns closely with Hong Kong’s core strategies in its Climate Action Blueprint 2050, such as “Net-Zero Power Generation” and “Waste Reduction for All.” Obtaining a carbon footprint label allows companies to proactively respond to government low-carbon policies and avoid potential future carbon-related regulatory restrictions (such as carbon pricing and emission controls). Furthermore, the certification is conducted by the Hong Kong Manufacturers’ Association Testing Centre, enhancing companies’ recognition at the policy level and laying the foundation for participation in government green projects and long-term access to policy incentives (such as preferential green financing).
Achieving Mutual Recognition between Guangdong and Hong Kong, Expanding Cross-Regional Markets: The signing of the Guangdong-Hong Kong Carbon Label Mutual Recognition Agreement in 2023 enabled Hong Kong products’ carbon footprint labels to be recognized throughout the Greater Bay Area, breaking down low-carbon compliance barriers in the regional market. With this label, companies can leverage the advantage of “one audit, two labels” to simultaneously meet the low-carbon consumption needs of Hong Kong and Guangdong, facilitating access to the vast Greater Bay Area market and attracting buyers focused on low-carbon supply chains. This is particularly suitable for Hong Kong companies looking to expand their domestic sales, increasing market coverage.
Strengthening Brand Differentiation and Attracting Green Consumers: Carbon footprint labels provide intuitive proof of a product’s low-carbon attributes, helping companies gain a competitive edge over similar products. As consumers (especially Generation Z) increasingly favor sustainable products, labels directly convey a company’s environmental responsibility and enhance brand credibility and consumer goodwill. Companies can display labels on product packaging and in advertising, highlighting the “low-carbon and environmentally friendly” aspect to attract consumers willing to pay a premium for green products, thus increasing product added value.
Optimizing Production Efficiency and Reducing Operating Costs: The certification process requires companies to quantify the carbon emissions throughout the product’s lifecycle. This process helps companies accurately identify energy waste and resource misuse in production, transportation, and packaging. Through targeted optimization (such as using environmentally friendly materials, improving equipment energy efficiency, and optimizing transportation solutions), companies can reduce carbon emissions while lowering energy consumption, raw material consumption, and waste disposal costs. Furthermore, the Manufacturers’ Association Certification Center provides capacity-building services such as carbon footprint calculation method guidance and data collection tool support to help companies efficiently complete certification and reduce additional management costs.
